This October, Flashpoint Gallery hosts House - 13 new works by Andrew Wodzianski. October 8 – November 7, 2009. Opening reception Thursday October 8, 6 - 8 PM. Witness Andrew's performance of House XIII!
Andrew Wodzianski’s paintings lift imagery from William Castle’s b-movie horror flick from 1959, 'House on Haunted Hill.' While a painting exhibition in its own right, House will also incorporate the gimmickry and audience participation for which director Castle was legendary. Visitors to the gallery will be invited to participate in a scavenger hunt, House Hunt DC, and will ultimately have the chance to win paintings from the exhibition. A costume party and gallery fundraiser, House Party, will be held in conjunction with the exhibition on Friday, October 30.

Join the Washington Psychotronic Film Society for William Castle Appreciation Night! William Castle (1914-77) was an American film director, producer, and actor. He was famous for directing films with many gimmicks which were ambitiously promoted, despite being reasonably low budget B-movies. In the spirit of Castle and his film Mr. Sardonicus, 10/27 WPFS viewers will decide which feature is screened. With nine features to choose from, it's the tyranny of the majority!
Hosted by The Incorrigible Dr. Schlock, arrive early for some rare eye-candy and groovy tunes. Stay late for some truly horrific raffle (and scavenger hunt) prizes.
William Castle Appreciation Night is in collaboration with DC based artist Andrew Wodzianski and his current Flashpoint Gallery exhibit, House. Wodzianski’s paintings lift imagery from William Castle’s 1959 horror film, "House on Haunted Hill." While a painting exhibition in its own right, House also incorporates the gimmickry and audience participation for which director Castle was legendary. Throughout October, Wodzianski has orchestrated a DC scavenger hunt (twitter.com/househuntdc), and the WPFS 10/27 screening will be its finale. More information about the House exhibit and scavenger hunt, can be found at Flashpointdc.org or wodzianski.com
As usual, all screenings are free, but a donation ($2.00) is suggested. The WPFS is a non-profit org. and is now in its 20th year. The WPFS was founded in 1989 by Melanie Scott.
The WPFS is dedicated to the appreciation and defense of: Independent, cutting-edge, student, experimental, anime, off-beat, underground, obscure, super-8, low-budget, classic, forgotten, must-see, and just about anything on film.
House Hunt DC is a scavenger hunt extension of Andrew's performance piece, House XIII. It begins Thursday, October 8! Follow Andrew's twitter feed as he reveals five separate riddles. The first follower to solve a riddle will be not only be awarded passes to House Party, but also an exclusive House After-Party. Those surviving the After-Party will take a painting from the exhibit!
House Party! is a costume party and Flashpoint Gallery fundraiser. Friday October 30, 9 - Midnight. Tickets to the party are $20 in advance; $25 at the door, and free for the five House Hunt DC scavenger hunt winners. More information can be found at:

What is Yuri's Night?
April 12, 1961 Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin embarked on the historic first manned space flight.
Twenty years later on April 12, 1981, the US launched the first space shuttle flight.
Every year on April 12, Yuri's Night parties are held all around the world; it's like the Cinco de Mayo for space.
