Rob,
Happy belated birthday!
I wanted to send you a letter of support and confidence for your latest film endeavor, ”Halloween.” By the time you receive this letter, principal shooting should be over. Nevertheless, post-production can be a grueling process and hopefully my words of encouragement can be a positive break in your schedule.
I’m a visual artist working in our nation’s capitol and find your mastery of all media to be truly inspirational. As a professed admirer of everything macabre, sinister, and disturbing, I’ve enjoyed your canon of work since I purchased ”La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol.1” in the fall of 1993. I was a college freshman and scared the living hell out of my dorm roommate by reciting White Zombie lyrics while studying. He was retarded, so in hindsight I probably should have taken it easier on him.
Musical efforts aside, your film credits are the most exciting for me. ‘Halloween’ is an iconic piece of cinema, and not just for the horror genre. If anyone is going to honor the original Carpenter masterpiece, it is you. If “House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil’s Rejects,” and “I’m Your Boogieman” are any indication, your re-visioning of Michael Myers is bound to be fresh and unique. As a personal favor; if you decide to incorporate any shots of Michael, Laurie, and a coat hanger, please make it a short sequence (or a deleted scene/bonus DVD feature). If I see that combination again on the big screen, I’ll likely revert back to a six year old and wet my pants. I know some people are into that, but not me brother. I like to stay dry!
I’ve enclosed several of my previous exhibit showcards as well as a business card. Additionally, I included three low resolution prints of recent paintings inspired by the ”Halloween” franchise. When I first learned you would direct the remake, I thought I should write this letter as soon as possible. I was certain you’d be so enamored with my work that you’d want a painting as a movie prop. Prudence suggested I be cool and wait. Prudence is a girl I work with. Here’s hoping she knows what the hell she’s talking about because I would have loved to see one of my paintings in your movie.
Anyway, the point is; I dig your work and I want you to know others share similar vision and root for you. Send the word Rob, and I’ll send you a painting. Your work has offered so much enjoyment for me over the years, the least I could do is give you some art. In the short term, I’m eagerly anticipating ”El Superbeasto” (no offense, but my Luchadores would kick his head in). Come this October, I’ll be the first in line to see “Halloween.” If you and the film have promotional touring planned for the fall, think about a visit to Washington. When you do, consider touching base with me. I can buy you a drink and show you some Mexican wrestling masks!
Best,
Andrew Wodzianski
